On behalf of the Chatterton Elementary School community I would like to welcome you and your families. I am excited, and enthused to begin my third year as Principal of Chatterton Elementary School. As many of you know, I have been working for the Merrick Union Free School District for the past twenty-two years. Ms. Laura Gewurz will be experiencing her third year as Assistant Principal at Chatterton. With her professionalism, intelligence, passion and personality she has been a tremendous asset to our school. We thank you, along with staff members and students for providing us with support and for giving us the opportunity to have an impact upon your children.
Our teachers are skilled, devoted instructional leaders and promote student achievement and academic excellence while developing student's emotional, social and physical development in both structured and supportive learning environments. Students are taught strategies to enhance their higher level and critical thinking skills and learn through inquiry and constructivist interdisciplinary explorations with technology incorporated into all curriculum areas.
Our students are a community of readers, authors, mathematicians, scientists, explorers, artists, actors, musicians, gymnasts and technological “experts”. We are a community of people of various ages and backgrounds all seeking respect of one another. We foster compassion, tolerance, fairness, trustworthiness and loyalty.
We promote service learning, which supports our character education program. We continuously work toward caring and sharing. We have instilled in our students the obligation to give of ourselves in a variety of ways and share with the less fortunate. Our devoted parents from PTA and our Student Council members have encouraged our students to be involved in a variety of projects as service leaders, taking a proactive approach to global pro-social support.
The support among the Merrick Board of Education, the administrators, faculty, parents and community of our Chatterton students is overwhelming. All working together, we have high expectations and foster excellence in our students. We strive to ensure that all children are successful in meeting their goals and fulfilling their potential.
