“Building a foundation for the future!”
Dear Parents:
Birch School serves almost 600 students in the Merrick community in Nassau County. We provide a comprehensive educational program for students ranging from kindergarten to grade 6. We have high expectations for all of our students and strive to unlock each child's potential through providing a secure and nurturing learning environment. The children who attend Birch School are bright and caring, each one holding the potential to rise to greatness in their own individual ways. The possibilities are endless when you combine our students' potential with the involved parent community that surrounds Birch School. Together, with the talented Birch staff of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals, we aim to prepare our children for their future successes in the prestigious Merrick School District, and in life.
Our instructional staff leads students in the acquisition and development of the tools to make them life-long learners. We believe that teaching needs to be differentiated to meet the needs of a wide-range of abilities and learning styles, without always compromising the content. Birch School enters into the 2007-2008 school year with many exciting new initiatives aimed at meeting and exceeding the expectations of the New York State Learning Standards.
As quoted from our school song, "Birch School is like a family." Working together as a team, the Birch staff, parents and students each support one another. We have an active Site-Based Team comprised of parents and staff who work together on school-wide initiatives. Our Student Council rallies our student body to become a cohesive and spirited community through sponsoring charitable events along with S.A.D.D., as well as organizing school spirit days. Additionally, our PTA provides so many wonderful opportunities to our children and support to our school. The Birch PTA assists with community building through activities such as the Welcome Back picnic and the Carnival. They are an integral part of providing educational resources through field trips and cultural arts programs. The PTA also provides classroom support through the organization of class parents.
We would love to have you join us in developing and supporting the growth of the children of the Merrick community.
Sincerely,
