Joann Seibert
President Email: jseibert@merrick.k12.ny.us Joann takes pride in working on behalf of the children and residents of the Merrick School District. She realizes how the goals and policies set by the board impact the students and their education. She was recently re-elected for her third term. Joann has served as a PTA Co-President at Chatterton School, a member of the district Character Education Committee, Professional Development Committee and the Chatterton Site-Based Team. She has a MBA in Finance and a MS in Education. Her professional experience includes: Assistant Vice President at JP Morgan Bank and Financial Director at MasterCard International. Joann is a faculty member in the Math, Computer Science, Information Technology Department at Nassau Community College. She and her husband Rich have 3 children; Alexandra, Richie, and Matthew. The Seibert’s have been residents of Merrick for 17 years. |

Gina Piskin
BoE Vice President Email: gpiskin@merrick.k12.ny.us Gina Piskin has been involved in the Merrick school district for years and is looking forward to serving as a Board of Education trustee. She has a 12th grader and a 10th grader at Kennedy, as well as a son in 3rd grade at Levy-Lakeside. She believes having a number of children in the schools will benefit her as a trustee. A graduate of Adelphi University with a bachelor's in history, which she received with honors, Piskin has chosen to stay home and raise her children. She was the Levy-Lakeside PTA president last year and remains active with the organization. “When I became involved in the PTA, I started going to board meetings,” said Piskin, adding, “I always encourage people to go, but you see the same people at the meetings. I'd like to see more people go so they can see how the decisions are made.” Piskin said her goal as a trustee will be to encourage communication between parents, administrators and board trustees. |

Sheri Iskenderian
BoE Trustee Email: siskenderian@merrick.k12.ny.us Sheri Iskenderian, BOE Trustee Sheri is currently serving her first term on the Board of Education. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge about the schools as well as a passion for educating children. She believes that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential in a nurturing, safe environment. Sheri is committed to listening to the community prior to making decisions that effect our students. Sheri brings with her experience that is both broad and deep. She has lived in Merrick for the last 12 years with her 4 children. Sheri has a freshman in Syracuse University, a 10th grader at Calhoun High School and twins in 6th grade. She has been an active member of Lakeside PTA and SEPTA since she moved to Merrick. She served on Levy-Lakesides PTA's Executive Board for 8 years. Sheri has been a member of the Shared Decision Making Teams and Character Ed committees at both the building and District levels. Prior to having children Sheri was an Officer and Program manager for Citibank. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry from Tufts University. Sheri is committed to making the Merrick Schools a community of life-long learners. |

Nancy Kaplan
BoE Trustee Email: nkaplan@merrick.k12.ny.us As an educator, Nancy cares deeply about children and realizes the importance of a quality education to their future. She is a firm believer that each child has the potential to "change the world" and should be equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to do so. In her role, Nancy is an advocate for all children and will do whatever it takes to ensure that they receive the best education possible. Nancy is an Associate Vice President at St. John's University. In her role she oversees services for over 3,000 first-year students and all student athletes. She also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Education teaching courses in Educational Administration and Supervision. Her academic credentials from St. John's University include the Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration and Supervision, Master of Business Administration Degree in Executive Management and Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management. In addition, she completed the Management Development Program at Cornell University's New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the Management Development Studies Program at Harvard University. She is a skilled facilitator on issues of diversity and communication and serves as a Training Specialist for the Anti-Defamation League, the Nassau County Holocaust and Tolerance Center and the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. Diane Seaman
BoE Trustee Email: dseaman@merrick.k12.ny.us Diane Seaman finds the problem solving aspects of her Board position challenging. Making decisions that benefits students while being fiscally responsible are important to her. Ms. Seaman appreciates working with diverse groups of people who bring varying experiences and opinions to the table. As a former SEPTA co-president and board member for seven years, PTA vice president, chairperson of at least 15 committees, and site based member, Ms. Seaman relies on the needs of the community, past experience and her commitment to ongoing school board training to help make decisions. Ms. Seaman serves represents Merrick on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School Board and is a member of Kiwanis, responsible for the annual clothing drive. This is her seventh year on the board. She and her husband, Gary have three sons, two graduated from Sanford H. Calhoun high school and college, and the youngest will enter Calhoun in the fall. Ms. Seaman is a paralegal. |

Susan Schwartz
BOE Trustee Email: sschwartz@merrick.k12.ny.us Susan is in the middle of her fourth term on the Board of Education. She has lived in Merrick for 19 years and her two children, Marlee, a graduate from University of Florida, and Michael, a junior at University at Buffalo, are proud examples of the Merrick Elementary Schools. She is currently a first grade teacher in Suffolk County and sees firsthand the impact Board decisions have on each child in the classroom. She feels the Merrick Board of Education wholeheartedly supports the needs of every student and strives to empower every child with the ability to be a successful, life-long learner. She would like to continue to ensure that the Board remains active contributors to the community and that the community continues to be fully involved in our schools. |

Butch Yamali
BOE Trustee Email: byamali@merrick.k12.ny.us Butch Yamali is a lifelong resident of Nassau County and has resided in Merrick for the past eight years. His wife is Linda, and his three children are Danielle, a student at the University of Delaware; Celeste, a sophomore at Kennedy High School; and Abe, who is in seventh grade at Merrick Avenue Middle School School. Butch is proudly serving his fifth year as President of the Merrick Little League, which has been rated number one in New York State for the past four seasons. After years of working in every different aspect of his father's restaurants in Manhattan, in 1989, Butch purchased an ice cream truck and hired drivers to operate the vehicle, using the name Carnival Ice Cream. He expanded the ice cream business by purchasing additional trucks, eventually becoming the largest Good Humor distributor on Long Island. Mr. Yamali expanded his business into other areas as well-developing snack bars and concession stands in municipal park locations and operating vending machines under contract with Federal, State, and local governments, as well as corporate clients. Years later, Mr. Yamali developed college campus food courts, as well as the off-premises catering business, and coordinated large special events for governmental and corporate clients. Today, Butch Yamali owns and operates the Dover Gourmet, consisting of Dover Gourmet Corporation, Quick Snack, Dover Hospitality Services, and Carnival Ice Cream Company, and is one of the largest food service, catering, vending, and ice cream provider in the metropolitan area. |
